Ripeness Tester for Fruits and Vegetables

The Wagner FT Fruit Ripeness Tester is a compact penetrometer for testing fruit firmness, the universally accepted measure of ripeness. It is the grower's indispensable tool for knowing when to pick and ship.

The FT Fruit Tester measures the force required to push a plunger tip of specified size into the fruit pulp. The force reading assists in determining the correct picking time or for monitoring of fruit softening during storage. Because of the wide variety of fruits and vegetables, geographic locations and other variables, the "correct firmness" for harvest will vary and instrument users must combine expertise and knowledge of a particular fruit's ripening characteristics and local conditions, in order to make the best use of this instrument.

  • Model FT 30 is intended for apples, pears and other firm fruit (not suitable for peaches)
  • Peak hold: Peak readings are held until the reset button is pushed
  • Graduations: Dual graduations in pounds (lbf) and grams (gf) with lbf on outer ring
  • Set includes: penetrometer tip(s), test hook, peeler, splash plate and manual in a pocket-sized case
  • Net weight: 3 oz. (90 g).
  • Accuracy: ? 1 graduation
  • Warranty: 1 year limited

Note: When repair or calibration adjustment is required, the tester is returned to the manufacturer. If rebuildable/recyclable - the tester is replaced with a rebuilt gage for rapid return service.
